Malda:West Bengal

Malda town is connected by rail and road with the rest of the country,Malda can be reached easily by bus or train from Calcutta or from Siliguri.Malda was previously known as Gour,it was the kingdom of Eastern India nearly during the end of  sixth century.

It is better to visit Malda during winter,we started our visit with  the place Ramkeli,hindu religious reformer Sri Chaitnayadeva,visited this place on his way to Vrindaban. Chaitanyadeva or Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was the notable exponent of Bhakti(or devotional)Movement,an important landmark in the cultural history of medieval India. Roop & Sanatan the Hindu ministers of Sultan Hussain Shah met him and became his deciple,later they resigned from the royal service and spent their last phase of life at Vrindaban.

Bara sona masjid

Next it was Bara Sona Masjid,it was constructed by Sultan Hussain Shah in 1526,then Salami Darwaja,as gun salutes were offered from this place constructed in 1425,then Firoz Minar,Qadam Rasul,Tomb of Fateh Khan,son of Aurangzeb`s General, Dilawar Khan,was sent by the emperor to kill Saint Shah Niamat ullah,suspected of advising Sultan Suja to rebel.It was believed Fateh Khan vomitted blood and died on the spot. Qutab sahi Mosque, also known as the Sona Masjid or Golden mosque due to its earlier gilded wall surface and crowns of the turrets.

Lukochuri Darwaja,Eklakhi Tomb,the cost of its construction was one lakh rupees and hence it was named,the tomb was constructed between 1415 to 1431.Aadina Masjid was built during 1364-1374by Sikandar Shah,and this huge prayer hall is Bengal`s one of the historic architectural milestone,where Ten thousand people could offer their Namaz at a time,to its north Badshah-Ki-Takht,or a place where Sultan used to sit with the ladies of the family.

Another thing for which also Malda is famous throughout the world is, Mango,the king of all fruits,varieties of mangoes are exported from here and can be tasted if visited during its season.
